In modern times where the inevitable excessive use of computers and/or mobile devices is a given, we know patients now tend to have tighter necks and upper backs – what we call in neurology as a less than communicative autonomic system. What does this mean?
Your autonomic nervous system (ANS) is an automatic hard-wired functioning system that controls your gut and bodily functions, down to your sweat glands. When there are toxins in the environment, food or air, coupled with exposure to electromagnetic fields from devices like computers, tablets, and phones, the communication system of the autonomic nervous system is often disrupted, causing health problems ranging from back pain and muscle stiffness, to migraines. This dysregulation of the ANS is often caused in part by having our eyes exposed to blue light from unfiltered screens for extended periods of time.
